Attendance Policy

Students should be in school every scheduled day.

Except in the case of excused late arrivals and early dismissals, students must be present in school from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or from 11:30 a.m. to 3:08 p.m. to be eligible to participate in any extracurricular activity offered by the school that day.

Students are expected to attend every class meeting. Attendance records are maintained on a class-by-class basis, and requirements and consequences apply to each course individually.

Recognizing that there are legitimate and unavoidable reasons for absence, parents/guardians may call in to the high school to excuse a student’s absence. To excuse an absence, the parent/guardian must call the high school attendance office prior to 10:00 a.m. of the school day on which the student is absent. If an absence is not called in by 10:00 a.m. the absence is unexcused. The parent/guardian must leave a return telephone number and a reason for the absence. No one except a parent or guardian may excuse an absence for a student.

Excused absences should be called in as early as possible. After 10:00 a.m., the high school will begin
calling parents and guardians of all students who are absent from school without a call-in from home.

Grade penalties will be imposed for unexcused absences.

When a student comes to class without a pass more than fifteen minutes after formal instruction has begun, s/he is considered absent.

In extenuating circumstances, a student or his/her parent/guardian may appeal to the administration to resolve attendance issues.

Uniform Disciplinary Code

Prologue expects all our students to observe certain behavioral rules.  However, each campus has some flexibility in implementation and may have additional guidelines.

Alcohol / Drug Policy

No person may possess, use, produce, sell, distribute or aid in the distribution of alcohol, narcotics, drugs, mood altering substances, or other substances, nor use, possess, sell, or distribute paraphernalia for the purpose of drug use, at any time in school buildings, on school property and grounds, in school-sponsored vehicles or at school-sponsored events at other sites.

The terms “alcohol, narcotics, drugs, mood altering substances and other substances" refer to items such as: gases, solvents, butane, propane, adhesives; marijuana or its derivatives; cocaine/crack; LSD or other hallucinogenic drugs; barbiturates; PCP; amphetamines and amphetamine-like compounds; heroin; methadone; scheduled narcotics; steroids; herbal/natural euphoriants; look-alike products; and any substances commonly referred to as “designer drugs.”

The unauthorized inappropriate and/or illegal use of prescription and over-the-counter preparations is prohibited. Prescription medication or over-the-counter preparations for personal use shall be allowed only as per district medication policy, under the supervision of school personnel, with written orders from a physician. Federal, state and local laws shall apply.

Cell Phone

Cell phone use during school hours is distracting and unnecessary. Cell phones in a student’s possession must be left off and stored during school hours. The first offense for violating this policy will result in the cell phone being taken away for the day. The second offense will result in the cell phone being taken away and kept until a parent or guardian retrieves the article. All school calls can be routed through the high school office.

Students are not allowed to make phone calls during class. Students may use the phone in the school office before and after school. Students must sign the phone log when using the school phone.

Tobacco Products

Students are forbidden from using cigarettes and other tobacco products on school grounds.  Students in possession of a tobacco product will be considered in violation of this policy. Students will be subject to penalties up to and including possible expulsion.

In addition, any student found in an area (e.g. bathroom stall) where smoke is present will risk the consequences stated in the smoking policy and/or those associated with creating an unsafe or dangerous condition.  Students are reminded that only one student should be in a bathroom stall at any given time.  All students who congregate in a stall where smoke is observed will risk disciplinary consequences.

Weapon Policy

No student shall possess a weapon when in the school building, on school grounds, or on any school sponsored trip or activity. “Possession” refers to having a weapon on one’s person or in an area subject to one’s control on school property or at a school trip/activity. Possession of an illegal or dangerous weapon will not be tolerated. Violations will be reported to the police for legal action. The parent/guardian will also be notified and the weapon will be confiscated.
“Weapons” are identified in two categories:

1.    Articles commonly used or designed to inflict bodily harm and /or intimidate other persons. Examples are: firearms, whether loaded or unloaded; knives; clubs; metal knuckles used in a threatening manner; numchucks; throwing stars; explosives; shotguns; ammunition; chains; pellet guns; look-alike guns; and other non-functioning guns that could be used to threaten others.

2.    Articles designed for other purposes but which are actually used to inflict bodily harm and/or intimidate. Examples include, but are not limited to: belts, combs, pencils, files, scissors, compasses, and letter openers. A student who finds a weapon on the way to school or in the school building and takes the weapon immediately to the director’s office shall not be considered to possess a weapon.
Corrective action shall include initial suspension for five days, confiscation of weapon, notification of police, parent notification, and possible recommendation to the school administration for expulsion proceedings for up to one year.
